Group Wants To Ban Charter Schools

A ballot initiative to eliminate charter schools is in the works for November.

The coalition, Voices Against Privatizing Education, claims charter schools can start up anywhere and lack safety and teacher certification.

However, Jed Wallace, CEO of the California Charter Schools Association, says charter schools are just like public schools with a small difference.

"A charter school has to go through a very elaborate process in order to get approved here in the State of California," Wallace said. Adding that charter schools help sustain public education.

More than 300,000 signatures are needed for the initiative to go on the ballot.
