Building 12 Schools in 10 Years in Elk Grove

Elk Grove Unified needs schools and will be building about a dozen of them soon.

The fifth largest district in the state currently has 66 schools, and more than 62,000 students. In the next decade plenty of growth is expected in the area.

“About every single household build in our school district creates about a half of an elementary school student and goes up from there,” said Robert Pierce, a spokesman for Elk Grove Unified.

The district’s plan has the option for more than 50 school sites, but officials have chosen to build 12.
