Colleges Bumped Off US News & World Report's “Best” List for Misreporting Data

U.S. News & World Report says it has altered its annual rankings of the best colleges in the country after several universities admitted to misreporting data.

UC Berkeley, Scripps College, Mars Hill University, the University of North Carolina–Pembroke, and Johnson & Wales University are all “unranked” now. On the initial list, UC Berkeley was listed as the second best public college in the nation.

The incorrect data was submitted for the 2019 rankings. The schools notified U.S. News & World Report about the misrepresentations as the publication was collecting data for 2020.

“Misreporting is rare, and U.S. News takes misreporting very seriously," the team wrote. "In addition to the rankings, U.S. News publishes data provided by schools in order to assist consumers as they evaluate their education options."
