El Rancho Unified Picks New Superintendent
The El Rancho Unified School District has selected its next superintendent. Frances Esparza was chosen in a 3-2 vote by the board last week. Contract negotiations are now underway.
Esparza most recently served as superintendent and vice president of Charter Schools for Para Los Niños in Los Angeles. It was a brief stint.
“I really am a pre-K-12 public education advocate,” she said (Whittier Daily News).
Before her work with Para Los Niños, Esparza was assistant superintendent of the Office of English Language Learners for Boston Public Schools. She also previously worked as a school principal in the Los Angeles Unified School District and helped the district craft programs for English learners.
Esparza has had a passion for English learning nearly all her life.
The district’s teachers have expressed concerns over a lack of experience. They want to see someone who will stay for the long haul and make meaningful changes.
Esparza has assured them she doesn't plan to go anywhere.
“I will stay here as long as the community will have me,” she said.
