Sixth Annual Excellence Through Equity Conference Kicks Off in Riverside County

More than 1,000 administrators from public school districts, county offices of education, and colleges will attend a conference on student equity today and tomorrow in Riverside County. It is the sixth annual Excellence Through Equity Conference, hosted by the county’s Office of Education. It takes place September 12-13, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort.

“The Excellence Through Equity Conference is designed to provide educators with the information and resources needed to eliminate the gaps in achievement, expectations, and opportunity for students from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds,” according to RCOE’s website. “The conference content focused on state priority aligned best practices that should be implemented to create equitable school environments for all learners.”

Attendees will learn about the equity issues facing students in the U.S., California, and Riverside. They will also learn about successful practices that have been implemented to combat these problems.

The keynote speakers are former Navy SEAL, actor, and writer Remi Adeleke, Homeboy Industries founder and director Gregory Boyle, professor and author Dr. Chris Emdin, and professor and author Dr. Victor Rios.
