New Superintendent Selected by Santa Barbara College Trustees

Santa Barbara City College is welcoming a new superintendent from Kansas City, Missouri.

EdHat reports that Dr. Utpal K. Goswami has been selected by a unanimous vote of SBCC trustees. He could assume the position as early as January, pending approval of an employment contract on November 14, 2019.

Goswami has served in education for more than three decades and most recently served as president of MCC-Longview in the Metropolitan Community College district of Kansas City. He is replacing Dr. Anthony E. Beebe who retired earlier this year.

SBCC launched a national search after Beebe’s departure, which narrowed to two finalists — Goswami and Kenneth Lawson, vice president of instruction at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Washington. The two were quizzed on a number of issues ranging from SBCC’s $3.2 million deficit and declining enrollment to environmental policies on Thursday. They underwent in-depth interviews on Friday.
