Santa Ana Unified Taps New Superintendent

The Santa Ana Unified School District has found its next superintendent. Jerry Almendarez, who most recently served as the superintendent of Colton Joint Unified in San Bernardino County, was selected by the Santa Ana Unified Board of Trustees Tuesday, the Orange County Register reports. He will take over on Jan. 1 at an annual salary of $350,000 plus benefits.

His experiences over a 27-year career span include include classroom teacher, principal and administrator. He has a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from the University of Redlands and a bachelor’s degree in business/finance from Cal State San Bernardino...

Almendarez replaces two educators who have been serving in recent months since former Superintendent Stefanie Phillips left the districtin September for “family and down time.”

Santa Ana Unified services 47,000 students across 61 schools and programs. The district has a budget of $697.4 million and approximately 5,000 employees.
