Growing Violence Topic of Protest, Board Meeting at Morongo Unified
Parents of Morongo Unified gathered at La Contenta Middle School Tuesday morning to protest what they say is a surge in violence being improperly addressed by school officials. They then carried their concerns over to the evening’s school board meeting in Twentynine Palms, the Desert Sun reports.
One parent told the publication there are multiple fights at school everyday, most of them unprovoked. Morongo Teachers Association President Kojo McCallum said “this school year has been a disaster, discipline wise."
At the board meeting, parents suggested stronger security measures, a zero-tolerance policy on violence, and the hiring of additional supervisors to increase use of expulsions when necessary.
