Sonora Union High School District Names Next Superintendent

The Sonora Union High School District has selected Ceres High School Principal Ed Pelfrey as its next superintendent. His contract is expected to be inked on June 9. It’s not clear when his employment will take effect.

Pelfrey has held the Ceres principal’s position for the past five years. He previously taught social science in Tuolumne and Stanislaus counties before assuming the vice principal position at Sonora High and then the principal’s job at Columbia Elementary School.

Pelfrey holds an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Butte Community College and California State University (CSU) in Sacramento. He holds an Administrative Services Credential from CSU, Stanislaus and certification from the Association of California School Administrators in Sacramento. He is a recipient of many accolades, including the Association of California School Administrators’ Region 7 Co-Administrator of the Year award, the FFA Tri-River Region Star Administrator of the Year award, and the Administrator of the Year award for Ceres Unified School District.

Pelfrey will replace Dr. Mark Miller, who resigned in February.
