School Officials Resign Over Social Media Posts
Two Central Valley school officials have resigned after posting offensive material on social media.
Central Unified School District Trustee Richard Atkins resigned June 23 after writing on Facebook: “If you don’t love the country you live in then go back to the country you or your ancestors came from.”
Two days later, Madera County School Board President Sara Wilkins stepped down. She ignited a firestorm after posting a photo of a Confederate flag with the words “I’m proud to be white’ (sic) I bet no one passes this on because they are scared of (sic) be called a racist.”
A petition soon gained thousands of signatures from people calling for her ouster.
Social media continues to be quite a revelatory medium.
