Joe Biden Releases Plan to Reopen Schools
Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has released a five-point plan to help America’s schools reopen safely.
First and foremost, the Biden campaign says it’s time for the U.S. to get coronavirus under control. That means bringing infection down to manageable levels. The campaign has laid out a separate proposal on combatting COVID-19, which includes a national testing and tracing program.
The crux of Joe Biden’s school proposal is a $30 billion emergency package to help public schools implement coronavirus safety measures and acquire PPE. His plan calls for the establishment of national safety guidelines for districts to follow and includes $4 billion to help schools upgrade their technology and bridge the digital divide.

Everyone wants our schools to reopen. The question is how to make it safe and how to make it stick. Forcing educators and students back into classrooms in areas where infection rates are going up or remaining too high is just plain dangerous. pic.twitter.com/8OeTj2eWdt— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) July 17, 2020
