Another Charter School For Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Unified school board voted 4-2 to allow Westside Innovative School House Inc. to open another charter school.
However, the district charter school division had recommended that the board do the opposite, saying that WISH is financially unprepared and has had decreases in funding since the 2011-12 school year.
The charter group already has an elementary and middle school, but was seeking approval for a high school.
Earlier this year 21 charter school organizations signed a letter to the board saying the district was treating them unfairly. And earlier this week, 30 charter operator sent the district another email in support of WISH
This year, the board has approved more than half of the 15 new charter petitions it has received, according to the California Charter School Association.
Along with approving Wish Academy High School, the board also approved two charter renewals and a charter amendment to help KIPP Comienza Community Preparatory.
