Santa Clara COE is Not Criminal; Just Bad at Math

A team of auditors and lawyers have found no crimes from Santa Clara County Office of Education in relation to a payroll disaster from a few years ago.

In 2013, the county office issued hundreds of error-filled paychecks creating IRS chaos that they’ve had to undo. The payroll mess is so extensive that it will take at least another year to fix all the errors, according to Superintendent Jon Gundry

The Internal revenue Service is no longer charging the education office with more fines and is allowing them to keep the $174,000 late penalties refund from 2014.

About two dozen mistakes, including overpaying employees, duplicating payments, missing timesheets, and poor record-keeping, have been noted from an audit by SOAProjects of Mountain View.
