Cajon Valley Trustee Files Lawsuit Against District

A Cajon Valley Union School District trustee has filed suit against the district, claiming she suffered retaliation for raising questions about unscrupulous practices by the superintendent and other board members.

“They basically have tried to put sanctions in place to keep me from doing my job as a board member,” Jill Barto told the San Diego Tribune.

The lawsuit says she cannot contact district employees directly and has been barred from events and board committees.

Barto, who has served on the board since 1994, has raised questions about the superintendent’s travel expenses, as well as a construction contract she says was awarded to the school president’s son. She filed her lawsuit on Nov. 26 in federal district court.

In a statement, Superintendent David Miyashiro said it is Ms. Barto who's retaliating over long-standing disagreements with the board. He went on to call the suit “frivolous” and “meritless.”
