Burbank Unified Mulls Budget Cuts

At a townhall Monday, Burbank Unified officials discussed an upcoming parcel tax measure that would levy 10 cents per square foot on property owners annually — and what recourse the district may take if it doesn’t pass.

The district says Measure I would generate $9.1 million annually over 12 years. Without it, Burbank Unified will pursue $3.2 million in budget cuts.

“Proposed budget cuts would include eliminating five elementary physical education teachers, who teach at 11 schools,” the Los Angeles Times reports. “Three elementary music teachers would be eliminated in the first year and another two teachers would be cut the following year.”

That’s in addition to cuts made last year, including director of secondary education.
