Mapping All COVID-19 School Closures Across the United States

As schools across the country close due to coronavirus fears, it’s becoming harder and harder to keep track. Fortunately, EdWeek is keeping a national database showing every K-12 school or district closure in the country.

The map includes Aspire Monarch Academy in Oakland; Elk Grove Unified in Sacramento; Murrieta Valley High School; Lowell High School in San Francisco; Mission Prepatory in San Francisco; and Parlier High School. Nationwide, it shows school closures impacting around 1 million students.

In addition to K-12 schools, at least 20 California colleges have closed or moved classes online. These include Cal State East Bay; Cal State Long Beach; Cal State University, Chico; Cal State University, Northridge; Chapman University; City College of San Francisco; Golden Gate University; Marymount Loyola and Marymount Law School; Palo Alto University; Pepperdine University; San Jose State University; Santa Clara University; University of the Pacific; University of San Francisco; West Valley College; and UC Berkeley, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz.

The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a worldwide pandemic on Wednesday. The number of U.S. cases has now surpassed 1,200.
