A Community College Teacher is Headed to the White House

Dr. Jill Biden plans to continue teaching community college classes after her husband Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. That would make her the only First Lady to retain full-time work outside the White House.

Dr. Biden’s influence has been hailed as a victory for teachers.

“You're going to have one of your own in the White House,” Joe Biden told educators during his speech Saturday night.

This has been an especially grueling year for teachers, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and ensuing school closures. As the incoming administration mulls ways to help students and staff return to classrooms safely, Dr. Biden could lend an important voice on behalf of educators.

Dr. Biden has been a teacher for more than 30 years. She holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware and currently teaches English at a community college in Virginia.
