104 Layoff Notices Coming to Stockton Unified Staff
Layoff notices began going out this week to 104 employees of the Stockton Unified School District. Trustees voted to begin the process March 9 in a 5-2 vote.
This is the largest round of layoffs in a decade. Teachers, principals, and directors are all getting notices, along with employees who serve special needs students and promote inclusivity. The list includes a popular Stagg High School principal.
The actions are preliminary and, in the end, the district is unlikely to see more than 30 actual layoffs, Trustee Scott McBrian told The Record. SDUSD cites a structural deficit and declining enrollment as the cause.
