Sweetwater Union’s Acting Superintendent Hired for Three-Year Term

The Sweetwater Union High School District’s acting superintendent was handed the permanent position Monday by a 4-1 vote. Moises Aguirre has been hired for a three-year term nearly one year after his appointment to the interim role.

Aguirre was named acting superintendent in June after Karen Janney was placed on leave. A scathing external audit found evidence of improprieties under her watch and she was fired from the job in August.

Aguirre joined Sweetwater Union as its assistant superintendent in 2015. He previously worked as San Diego Unified’s executive director of district relations.

In a statement, San Diego Unified said “we look forward to working with Dr. Aguirre as partners in building a great public education system for students throughout San Diego County."
