99% of districts plan to fully reopen this fall. 89% will offer summer programs.
New data from California’s Safe Schools for All Hub show 99% of school districts plan to fully reopen for in-person learning this fall and another 89% plan to offer summer programs to help mitigate some of the learning loss kids have sustained.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration is pushing for summer programs to ensure readiness. His California Comeback plan would permanently expand summer and after-school programs in districts with a high concentration of high needs learners.
“A restorative summer filled with reconnection, enrichment and joy, followed by a return to full in-person instruction, is what’s best for our students,” said Newsom. “We still have a long way to go in our recovery but providing our students with more support and opportunities is exactly how we bring California roaring back.”
The Safe Schools For All Learning Hub was launched in January. It recently added new data, including District Planned Summer Programming and the corresponding Summer Programming Map.
