Daughter of slain firefighter accepts diploma at emotional ceremony

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at last week’s graduation ceremony for Saugus High School. Just two days prior, graduating senior Joslyn Carlon’s father — LA County firefighter Tory Carlon — was gunned down by a colleague at Fire Station 81. The loss to Joslyn, her family, and the entire LA County community gave the graduation an air of special reverence.

Jocelyn arrived wearing her father’s fireman jacket over her robe — its large size billowing about her small frame. As she made her way to the stage, she was flanked by several hundred LA firefighters standing in for her father. Loud applause rang out from the crowd as the teen’s name was called. With tears in her eyes, she accepted her high school diploma.

"To honor that beautiful girl tonight meant so much to me, to all my colleagues and my friends," LA County firefighter-paramedic Gary Reichman told ABC 7 News.
