Novato Unified Brings Back Former Superintendent

Novato Unified’s interim superintendent has been given the permanent title once again. Dr. Jan La Torre-Derby, who served as the district’s superintendent until 2011, was selected to lead the district on a permanent basis by the Board of Trustees at its regular meeting Tuesday.

“I am delighted to be back at NUSD to support the district in reestablishing systems of support for students, staff and the community,” Derby said.

Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) Superintendent Mary Jane Burke appointed Derby as the district's interim superintendent in June after the resignation of Kris Cosca.

In addition to the 18 years she spent with Novato Unified, La Torre-Derby previously served as superintendent of the Ross Valley School District.
