Three out of Four Students Miss Vaccine Deadline in Sacramento

The effort to get eligible Sacramento City Unified students vaccinated is not going well. According to the Sacramento Bee, just over a quarter of middle and high school students met the district’s Nov. 30 COVID-19 vaccination deadline.

The district says it is reaching out to the 14,000 SCUSD students who failed to provide evidence of vaccination. It’s possible some have received the vaccines but just haven’t submitted proof. The district said SCUSD will continue to offer weekly vaccination clinics for students as well. Those who fail to show proof as of Feb. 1 will be assigned to the independent study program.

In addition to students 12 and up, Nov. 30 was the deadline for all SCUSD staff to show proof of vaccination. A teachers union representative told KCRA that over 90% of the district’s teachers have already complied with the mandate.
