Dr. Marco A. Villegas Selected to Lead El Rancho Unified

The El Rancho Unified School District has a new superintendent at the helm. Dr. Marco A. Villegas’ appointment was approved by the Board of Education at its meeting on July 19. 

Dr. Villegas most recently served as Associate Superintendent of the Pasadena Unified School District. He previously served as Regional Director for the Ontario-Montclair School District in San Bernardino County, as well as a principal in the Monrovia Unified and Ontario-Montclair school districts.

Dr. Villegas holds a Ph.D. in Urban Educational Leadership from Claremont Graduate University. He earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from California State University, Los Angeles, where he has also worked as an adjunct professor.

Pasadena Unified’s website describes Dr. Villegas as “an expert in helping underperforming schools achieve academic success.” According to PUSD, “the schools under his direction have earned numerous awards for outstanding academic achievement. Among the awards his schools have received are the California Distinguished Schools Award, the Title I Academic Achievement Award (3 times), the California Business Education Excellence Award, the Gold Ribbon Award, and the State and National Schools to Watch Award.”
