Another Southland Teen Dies of Fentanyl Overdose

Days after a 15-year-old student fatally overdosed in a Hollywood high school bathroom, the media has learned of another LA teen who died after overdosing from fentanyl.

Luna Hinojosa, 14, died just over a week ago in La Puente after ingesting a drug believed to have been laced with fentanyl.

Hinojosa was a freshman at Nogales High School. Nogales High and the Rowland Unified School District released a statement Friday.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic event and are providing additional support to our students, staff, the student's family and the Nogales community at this difficult time," said Superintendent Dr. Julie Mitchell.

Four months ago, the Los Angeles County Health Department issued a warning to parents about the rise of fentanyl overdoses. Officials with the DEA have called fentanyl the deadliest drug threat in the history of the U.S.
