West Park Elementary Welcomes Fourth Schools Chief in Less Than a Year
The West Park Elementary School District in Fresno County has just hired its fourth superintendent in less than a year. Brian Clark received a 5-0 vote by the school board on Aug. 28. He started the job last week.
Clark has worked in education for 24 years, serving districts like Fresno Unified, Central Unified, and the former West Fresno Elementary School District. This is the first time he’s served as a superintendent.
“I am so happy and feel so blessed to have received the opportunity,” he told the Fresno Bee. “There’s so much positive here. There’s so many great students here and some fantastic educators. I just want an opportunity to help bring things to a place where we all can be extremely, extremely proud. I believe that’s possible.”
WPESD’s last two superintendents were fired by the school board. One of them is suing the district.
Parents hope Clark can bring some stability to the district — if he lasts. In addition to the revolving door of superintendents, there is high staff turnover at the schools, according to the teacher’s union.
