MacKenzie Scott Donates $20 Million to Fresno Unified
MacKenzie Scott has done it again. The philanthropist and former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has made a $20 million donation to the Fresno Unified School District.
“I’m rarely at a loss for words, but this might be one of those times,” said Supt. Bob Nelson. He described the donation as “a game changer” for FUSD and its students, 90% of whom qualify for subsidized meals because of their income.
Scott did not say why FUSD was chosen for the contribution. She has donated millions of dollars to many organizations including the YMCA and YWCA; Big Brothers and Big Sisters; Planned Parenthood; United Ways; Second Harvest; CSU Northridge and other California State University campuses; various community colleges; the NewSchools Venture Fund; Kingmakers of Oakland; College Track; and The Oakland Reach.
