Three UVA Football Players Killed in Campus Shooting
Three members of the University of Virginia (UVA) football team were shot and killed late Sunday by a former player.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the UVA campus in Charlottesville. A bus full of athletes was returning to campus from a field trip.
A harrowing emergency message was sent to students via the University of Virginia Office of Emergency Management. The message told students to “RUN HIDE FIGHT.”
Two other students were wounded during the shooting. One of them is in critical condition.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr. He is now in custody. The deceased players are Devin Chandler of Virginia Beach, D’Sean Perry of Miami, and Lavel Davis of Ridgeville, South Carolina.
Virginia has a tragic history of college shootings. In 2007, 32 people were killed and 17 others wounded during a mass shooting at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg.
