Merced City Schools Chief Gets the Axe

Merced City Schools Superintendent Diana Jimenez was terminated Friday after less than a year on the job. The vote to fire Jimenez was unanimous. Associate Superintendent Brian Meisenheimer has been named Acting Superintendent.

District employees had complained about Jimenez’s leadership. One teacher who spoke at the meeting Friday described work as “a constant battle” with no sense of direction from the superintendent’s office. At an earlier meeting, union representatives voiced similar criticisms.

Board President Allen Brooks made it clear that the termination was a response to those complaints.

“The board was listening,” he said.
