Bill Would Allow School Districts to Move Budget Hearing Notices Online

California school districts could start posting budget hearing notices on their respective websites under a bipartisan bill making its way through the California Legislature.

AB 721 was authored by Assemblymember Avelino Valencia (D-Anaheim). Co-authors include Assemblymembers Laurie Davies (R-San Clemente) and Phillip Chen (R-Brea).

Currently, school districts must post budget hearing notices in newspaper publications. By allowing these notices to be moved online, districts will save resources and keep the process more transparent, supporters of AB 721 say.

The bill passed the State Assembly on May 1 and is now before the State Senate.
