Sanger Unified Hires New Superintendent

The Sanger Unified School Board has hired a 24-year employee of the district as its next superintendent.

Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Dennis Wiechmann was hired last Tuesday by a unanimous vote. He will replace Adela Jones when she retires in June.

Sanger Unified is one of three major school districts in Fresno County to have recently hired a new superintendent. Corrine Folmer was promoted to superintendent of Clovis Unified in March. On April 25, Edward Gomes was hired to lead Selma Unified.

Board President Ismael “Mike” Hernandez called Wiechmann is “a strong, collaborative and proven leader who values all stakeholders.”

Despite the board’s consensus, Wiechmann has his detractors. A number of district employees opposed the appointment.

Wiechmann’s contract runs from July 1, 2023 to  June 30, 2026. He will earn an annual salary of $242,550 plus benefits.
