Chino Valley Unified Considers ‘Outing’ Trans Students
The Chino Valley Unified School District will consider a policy today that would require school staff to “out” transgender children to their parents or guardians. The policy is in direct conflict with guidance from the state’s Department of Education and will almost certainly invite legal challenges.
“This policy is meant to foster trust between district employees, and our students’ parents and guardians,” said District Board President Sonja Shaw, a member of the ‘parent revolt’ movement who was elected to the board last year. “I stand for the authority of parents to guide the upbringing of their children and their involvement in decisions related to their education, health, safety, and wellbeing.”
The policy is backed by several religious and conservative organizations, including Moms For Liberty, which was just designated an extremist group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Jorge Reyes Salinas with the LGBTQ advocacy group Equality California called the proposal “disgusting.”
