Temecula Valley Trustee Resigns, Ending Board’s Right-Wing Majority

Temecula Valley Unified Trustee Danny Gonzalez has resigned, effective immediately. According to Gonzalez, he will be moving to Texas for his job. He has been in the District 2 seat for only a year.

“It was an honor and privilege to serve the Temecula community and it is with a heavy heart that we are leaving,” Gonzalez wrote, according to the Press Enterprise. “We wish (the school district) and the entire valley well and appreciate the support we have received over this last year.”

Gonzalez’s departure deals at least a temporary blow to the board’s right-wing majority. Gonzalez is one of the board’s conservative members and a supporter of the so-called “parental rights” movement. He was facing a recall attempt along with Joseph Komrosky and Jennifer Wiersma.

With Gonzalez gone, conservatives no longer hold a majority on the TVUSD school board. TVUSD has been at the forefront of the conservative culture wars. Needless to say, this is a huge development.
