Lagunitas School District Principal-Superintendent to Retire

A Marin County elementary school district superintendent has announced her retirement.

Laura Shain has led the Lagunitas School District for the past year, but she has been principal of Lagunitas for 13 years. She will step down in June.

“I’m leaving at a time where the district is in really good shape and a real positive place for next year,” said Shain. “I feel very satisfied and that I’ve acted responsibly with the district, which feels to me like family.”

Shain oversaw the merger of the Montessori and Open Classroom programs. Enrollment declines, which prompted the merger, have now stabilized.
