Shasta Board of Education Selects New Superintendent

The Shasta County Board of Education has appointed Mike Freeman as Superintendent of Schools. He’ll take over in July.

“You can feel the passion and the trust that he elicits, both within our team and with community partners,” said Board Member Kathy Barry. “Mike represents continuity and stability with what has been achieved (at SCOE thus far) but is also clearly not treading water.”

Freeman currently serves as Associate Superintendent for Educational Services under Superintendent of Schools, Judy Flores. She is retiring at the end of June.

Although there were three candidates for the position, only Freeman made it to the interview process. That came as a disappointment to the board. Still, they felt they had found a keeper in Freeman.
