Alum Rock Fires its Superintendent

Longtime Alum Rock Union School District Superintendent Dr. Hilaria Bauer was terminated Thursday night in a 3-2 vote by the school board. The decision followed the board’s rejection of Bauer's recommendation to close a local middle school.

Some members of the board expressed surprise at the outcome.

“When it's a sudden decision like this, for me personally, it's tough," Board President Corina Herrera Loera said, as quoted by NBC

The district is facing a $20 million budget deficit for the coming school year. With or without Bauer, closures are on the horizon.

No reason was given for the decision to axe Bauer, who has been at the helm for a decade. The school board will meet Tuesday to discuss a replacement.
