Miller Creek Hires Interim Superintendent Despite Criticism

With Superintendent Becky Rosales away on medical leave, the Miller Creek School District has been searching for a temporary replacement. That interim has now been named. Valerie Pitts will serve through mid-June.

Pitts retired in 2017 from the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District. She has also worked for the Sausalito Marin City School District and the Tamalpais Union High School District.

Salary information for Pitts was not immediately available, but there has been criticism over the district’s decision to pay an interim superintendent at all. Superintendent Rosales and Deputy Superintendent Kristy Treewater are still on the payroll. Meantime, a $1.3 million deficit is looming over the district. On March 12, the district announced budget cuts and staff layoffs to address the shortfall.

Despite parent complaints about the additional costs of hiring an interim, Pitts’ appointment was unanimously approved by the school board.
